For those who haven’t already heard, we are making good progress on Hope House. After finally receiving our building permit, we have been able to schedule the work that required licensed contractors. The electricians have been here and are about to finish the work they need to do in rewiring the house. We found a plumber who was willing to donate his labor costs and charge us only for the materials needed, and his company will be finishing the plumbing very soon. Next, we will be scheduling a company to put in the insulation. Once the inspections on those projects are completed, we will be ready to hit the ground running with volunteers to get the house ready for our guests. We are excited and believe we are only a few months from welcoming refugees with the love of Christ.
I am truly amazed by and thankful for the ways God has provided the needed financial support through grants and donations from individuals and other churches in our area. We have also been blessed by the wonderful volunteers from HVBC and a variety of churches who have helped with the demolition and prep work on the house as well as with efforts to set up apartments for incoming refugees.
We are making plans for a workday on Saturday, November 12th. There will also be a group of members cleaning the church grounds that day, so you have multiple options for volunteering. Because of the number of volunteers mobilized right now in flood relief efforts east of us, we are leaning to having the sheetrock installed professionally, so on the 12th, we expect that we will need workers for painting, trim work, and the installation of doors. We will communicate as the date gets closer, but if you would like to be part of that workday, we want you to go ahead and mark your calendars and let Cara Bolton or me know of your interest.
On November 12th, we are also inviting folks to help us collect furniture and household goods for World Relief Durham that will be used for future apartment set-ups for refugees being settled in Durham. If you have furniture or household goods to donate, but are unable to deliver them yourself, please let us know by contacting me or sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please continue to pray for God’s provision and guidance as we finish the renovation effort and prepare to demonstrate Christian hospitality to our newly arriving neighbors. I see God at work and look forward to seeing the ministry opportunities God will give us in the months ahead.
