Arise, Your Light Is Coming
See, I am sending My messenger to prepare the way before Me,
And the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to His temple.
The messenger of the covenant in whom you delight—
Indeed, he is coming, says the Lord of Hosts.
But who can endure the day of his coming,
And who can stand when he appears?
For he is like a refiner’s fire and like fullers’ soap;
He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver,
And he will purify the descendants of Levi and refine them like gold and silver,
Until they present offerings to the Lord in righteousness.
Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to the Lord
As in the days of old and as in former years. Malachi 3:1-4
We will be reading from Luke 1:67-80.
Today’s Ensemble is Michelle Hunt, Mike Dossett, Anne Pokorny, Mike Bunch, John Myers & Leigh Bigger. Thank you for sharing your talents with us today.
The Joy of the Season
Praise the Lord! Praise, O servants of the Lord;
Praise the Name of the Lord.
Blessed be the Name of the Lord
From this time on and forevermore.
Who is like the Lord our God, Who is seated on high,
Who looks far down on the heavens and the earth?
He raises the poor from the dust,
And lifts the needy from the ash heap,
To make them sit with princes, with the princes of His people.
He gives the barren woman a home,
Making her the joyous mother of children.
Praise the Lord! – from Psalm 113
Mary Visits Elizabeth
39 At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea, 40 where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth. 41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. 42 In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear! 43 But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. 45 Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”
Mary’s Song
46 And Mary said:
“My soul glorifies the Lord
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me—
holy is his name.
50 His mercy extends to those who fear him,
from generation to generation.
51 He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.
54 He has helped his servant Israel,
remembering to be merciful
55 to Abraham and his descendants forever,
just as he promised our ancestors.”
56 Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned home.

Peaceful Faith
I will sing of Your steadfast love, O Lord, forever;
With my mouth I will proclaim Your faithfulness to all generations.
I declare that Your steadfast love is established forever;
Your faithfulness is as firm as the heavens.
You said, “I have made a covenant with my chosen one,
I have sworn to my servant David:
‘I will establish your descendants forever,
And build your throne for all generations.’
My faithfulness and steadfast love shall be with him;
People: And in My Name his horn shall be exalted.” – from Psalm 89

Believing the Unbelievable – First Sunday of Advent
Believing the Unbelievable – Rev. Benjamin Wines
“If”
The Lord swore to David a sure oath from which He will not turn back:
“One of the sons of your body I will set on your throne.
If your sons keep My covenant and My decrees that I shall teach them,
Their sons also, forevermore, shall sit on your throne.”
For the Lord has chosen Zion;
He has desired it for His habitation:
“This is My resting place forever;
Here I will reside, for I have desired it.
I will abundantly bless its provisions;
I will satisfy its poor with bread.
Its priests I will clothe with salvation,
And its faithful will shout for joy.
There I will cause a horn to sprout up for David;
I have prepared a lamp for My anointed one.
His enemies I will clothe with disgrace,
But on him, his crown will gleam.” – Psalm 132:11-18

Eating with Sinners
The Eternal Host
The earth is the Lord’s and all that is in it,
The world, and those who live in it;
For He has founded it on the seas,
And established it on the rivers.
Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?
And who shall stand in His holy place?
Those who have clean hands and pure hearts,
Who do not lift up their souls to what is false, and do not swear deceitfully.
They will receive blessing from the Lord,
And vindication from the God of their salvation.
Such is the company of those who seek Him,
Who seek the face of the God of Jacob. – from Psalm 24
Please join us in Worship. We will be reading from Isaiah 25:6-10a.
The HVBC Handbells will perform for us today. We would like to extend a heartfelt “thank you!” for sharing your gifts of music with us.
Good Neighbors
When you reap your harvest in your field
And forget a sheaf in the field,
You shall not go back to get it;
It shall be left for the alien, the orphan, and the widow,
So that the Lord your God may bless you
In all your undertakings.
When you beat your olive trees,
Do not strip what is left;
It shall be for the alien,
The orphan, and the widow.
When you gather the grapes of your vineyard,
Do not glean what is left;
It shall be for the alien,
The orphan, and the widow. – Deuteronomy 24:19-21

Keep Going
I will bless the Lord at all times;
His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul makes its boast in the Lord;
Let the humble hear and be glad.
O magnify the Lord with me,
And let us exalt His Name together.
I sought the Lord, and He answered me,
And delivered me from all my fears.
Look to Him, and be radiant;
So your faces shall never be ashamed.
This poor soul cried, and was heard by the Lord,
And was saved from every trouble.
The angel of the Lord encamps
Around those who fear Him, and delivers them.
O taste and see that the Lord is good;
Happy are those who take refuge in Him. from Psalm 34
