Christmas Eve 2020

Christmas Eve, 2020 – Hope Valley Baptist Church

On this holiest of nights, we come, joining the shepherds who are stunned by wonder.
On this most silent night, we come, our hopes and dreams joining those of Mary and Joseph.
On this night of carols and candlelight, we come, our glad songs joining with the choirs of angels.
We come to hear good tidings of great joy: Christ the Lord is born.
This is good news of great joy for all people!
Let us break forth together, into singing, for the Lord gives hope to His people.
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. Those who lived in a land of deep darkness – on them the light has shined.
Jesus Christ is the light of the world!
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
We call His name Emmanuel,
For He is “God with us.”
Tonight, we celebrate the birth of Christ by lighting the Christ candle.
Joy to the World! The Lord is come!

Our Nation –

Steeped in the worst economic crisis in decades! Sharply divided by bitter political differences! Committed to new policies by a new president with radically new ideas – loved by some; hated by others!

Attacked without warning by a ruthless enemy willing to die rather than lose!

Embroiled in a war on two fronts that seems impossible to win!

Mourning the loss of thousands of men and women fighting far from home!

It’s Christmas 1944.

In a world gone crazy, the only thing to hold onto is the message of the season!
